The goal of the freifunk Google Summer of Code is to get a few things done, to involve developers in different parts of the world, and to motivate students to code for freifunk.

Some people have agreed to mentor ideas all around freifunk, while others would be interested to participate as students. The freifunk organization works with projects and tools for community, business and wireless mesh networks in general.

Students can apply for a range of software applications including projects developing packages for OpenWrt and extending its functionality or network tools such as management server tools, graphic interfaces for existing tools, map extensions, p2p tools that take routing into consideration, implementing wlan sleeping modes, routing protocols and more.

Applications can be handed in starting from the end of March each year on the GSoC website. Please refer to the Student Check List for more info about requirements for the Freifunk GSoC.
