This page offers an overview of the freifunk GSoC application. The goal of the freifunk Google Summer of Code is to get a few things done, to involve developers in different parts of the world, and to motivate students to code for freifunk. Some people have agreed to mentor ideas all around freifunk, while others would be interested to participate as students. The freifunk project applies as an umbrella organisation for projects and tools for community, business and wireless mesh networks in general. Students can apply for example for projects developing packages for OpenWrt (the basis of the freifunk firmware) extending its functionality or other useful network tools such as management server tools, graphic interfaces for existing tools, map extensions, p2p tools that take routing into consideration, implementing wlan sleeping modes, routing protocols and more.

I am a student: Applications can be handed in starting from March 28 on the GSoC website. Please refer to the Student Check List for more info about details.

Google Summer of Code

Then apply for freifunk (click "Submit your Student Proposal", choose freifunk and fill in your project). More infos about the process in the blog at http://blog.freifunk.net. Good luck with your application!

University Cooperation during Summer of Code ECTS Credits: The Freifunk community has established relations with universities and scientific institutions. Please note that supporting universities (e.g. TU Berlin, Fraunhofer Institute) offer Europe wide accepted university credits, ECTS, for successful projects.
